Penance
By Chris
Tuesday, Jan 26, 2010 09:06
It happens to everybody. I ate terribly on Sunday. Bacon, scrambled eggs with cheese, pancakes, Taco Bell, sausage - not to mention the Bourbon. Oh well, what are you gonna do? You have to blow it out every once in a while to truly appreciate all of the times you behave, right? Anyway, I punished myself with Monday's workout as a penance for my poor dietary practices. Push Press x 6/Depth Drop x 6/Drop Step Chop w/ JC Band x 10 each side = 4 sets Barbell Squat Press (135) x 8/JC Band Sweeps (fast) x 20 = 3 sets KB (35) Single Leg Squats x 6 each/Hand Stand Push-ups x 10/Tubing Torso Twists (fast) x 10 each side = 3 sets DB Hammer Curls w/ DB Push-ups workdown set - 50 to 30, 10 reps each every 5 30 sec shuttles/30 sec rest x 3 sets Purification through PAIN!!! |

Tuesday's Workout
By Chris
Tuesday, Jan 05, 2010 09:48
I only had about 50 minutes to train this morning so I had to make every minute count. I definitely wanted to work on power today so after my warm-up I did a little Hang Clean/Push Jerk combo with some fairly fast tubing chops (3 sets for 3/3/12 each side). From there I went with weighted dips, RDL's, and Dynamax wall toss (cross-in-front, alternating sides). I was running low on time so I combined some conditioning with strength work to finish up = standing cable fly's/overhead triceps with a rope/4 round trip shuttle runs/sprinter sit-ups. Pretty good pump, pretty good sweat, a solid B. Peace out.

It's good to be back!
By Chris

Happy New Year!!! It's been awhile since we last spoke. With all the craziness of the holidays I somehow managed to finish the redesign of our website. Everything is new - the name, the colors, the departments - all in an attempt to make a more user friendly site. It's pretty straightforward, we have a workout page with dozens of different workous for you to try (and more will be added all the time). Our articles page is chock full of insightful prose on everything from fitness to nutrition, performance and rehab - and written by some of the brightest minds in Hampton Roads. The exercise videos page has dozens of videos illustrating many of the exercises we utilize at Wareing's Gym - if there is something you want to see, let us know. In this blog, the trainers and staff of the gym will be letting you know what workouts they are performing so that you will be inspired and have plenty to choose from when it's time for you to bring on the sweat. I'll talk to you guys real soon. Stay Fit!!!

Who needs a Gall Bladder anyway?
By Chris
Tuesday, Oct 06, 2009 09:43
I have been a little absent on the website for a while and that's because I recently had my gall bladder removed. If you don't know the gall bladder stores the bile produced by your liver, and you need the bile to help break down the fat in your diet. It all started as just a little heartburn and gradually developed into severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomitting, diarhea, fever, chills - FUN!!! Anyway, one laproscopic procedure later and the troubled organ is gone. The problem is that I cannot exercise for a few weeks and I can't lift for about a month. I'll make due but the stationary bike tends to get really old really quick. But, we do what we must to survive. It's good to be back, talk to you soon. Stay Fit! Chris |

Workouts and Random Thoughts
By Chris
Monday, Sep 14, 2009 03:00
We are diligently working to bring you a new and improved website under a new name. We are taking a lot of pictures, getting new graphics and links created, and shooting new video --- it shouldn't be long now. I just posted a new workout on the fitness page under the workout of the week. It's a 2 x 20 workout and it is suprisingly tough. Give it a try! The summer is almost over ......(a moment of silence please). This past weekend illustrates why September is one of my favorite months. Mid 70's, no humidity, clear blue skies, warm ocean waters - you could not have asked for a more perfect weekend. There is still some time to take advantage of living at the beach for some great workouts. Try this workout my buddy Steve Letourneau and I threw together Sunday morning, we affectionately refer to this as 40th street shenanigans: Bike from Croatan to 40th street. Push-ups w/feet on a bench x 20, inverted rows while hanging from the railing x 20, bench dips x 20, knee ups from railing x 20, 3 x 80 yard sprints in the soft-sand. Complete for three sets. Bike back to Croatan. Before you know it the weather is going to suck, enjoy the outdoors while you can. Peace Out. Stay Fit! Chris |
