2009 New Year's Resolution Challenge

It's that time of year again, have you made your resolutions yet?  We know how it is, you vow to change this or that, and you might even do it for a week or two. Ultimately though, we all end up reverting back to our old habits.  We believe that the main reasons most people fail to stick with the resolutions they make is unrealistic goals, a lack of support, and a lack of accountability.

When the goals you set for yourself are unattainable, you will quickly become discouraged because of your lack of success. Along those same lines, without the support and encouragement of friends and family,  it is really difficult to eat right and stay on a fitness regimen. Also, many people, unless highly self-motivated,  need to know that someone is holding them accountable for their actions. It's easy to eat a bacon swiss burger and skip a workout when no one is watching. That is where we want to help. Primarily we want to offer you a fitness and nutrition challenge that consists of challenging yet attainable goals. We want to support you in your improved lifestyle and encourage you every step of the way.  And if you need a watchdog, we can be that to!

Here is our challenge to you:

1)      Nutrition -- Pick one of the following categories and see if you can eliminate it completely or modify your consumption based on the guidelines we provide:

A) Alcohol - Click Here To Read The Alcohol Guidelines for 2009

B) Flour - Click Here To Read The Flour Guidelines for 2009

C) Sugar - Click Here To Read The Sugar Guidelines for 2009

2)      Fitness -- Make it a priority to get in three workouts a week. And not just a little stroll around the block, we mean three moderate to intense sessions! If you don't know what to do just check out the three New Year's Workouts Benny has provided for you below.

That's all there is to it! Our resolution is to eliminate or modify/resrict one unnecessary nuritional item from our diet and to get in three good, hard workouts each week. You are not in this alone. We will be here to give you all of the support and encouragement you need. Send us an email or post on the discussion board and let us know what you have chosen to give up or change and how it's going. As for accountability, find a partner. You must know someone with similar goals.  Make a pact to accomplish this together and hold each other accountable. Better yet, post your resolution on the discussion board and let the SportFit Community hold you accountable. Let's make 2009 the year we all achieve the best health and fitness of our lives. Together, we can make it happen!

Alcohol Guidelines for 2009
Chris Ullom, ATC, CSCS
I get the strangest feeling that many of you will choose to give up sugar or flour before you choose to give up alcohol (this isn't my choice either!). If you choose to enjoy the occasional spirit, try to consider some lower calorie alternatives. If you chose to give up sugar, think about what mixers you are putting n that drink. Check out the top five drinks for most and least calories (borrowed this from the net): . . . keep reading
